Austin, Tex. Freescale Semiconductor Inc. has extended its S08D family with the introduction of the highly integrated 9S08DZ128 MCU that offers high 8-bit performance and on-chip functionality for industrial and automotive designers.
The 9S08DZ128 MCU features a controller area network (CAN) interface, EEPROM and on-chip emulation/debug tools. The embedded CAN interface provides a suitable connectivity solution for many automotive and industrial control applications. The embedded EEPROM enhances system design flexibility by enabling data to be easily written and erased while eliminating the need for an external serial EEPROM. In addition, the integrated development tools with on-chip debug enable designers to debug quickly in real-time.
In the automotive market, the 9S08DZ128 MCU targets body, chassis, safety and powertrain control. Key industrial control applications include factory and building automation, security systems, health-care equipment, and aircraft and aerospace electronics.
Manufactured on Freescale's 0.25-micron process technology and scaling up to 40 MHz, the 9S08DZ128 is designed to deliver high performance with low-power consumption.
Power-saving modes include two low-power stop modes and low-power real-time interrupt (RTI) for use in run, wait and stop modes.
With an operating voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V, the 9S08DZ128 MCU offers 128K on-chip flash memory, 2K EEPROM, and up to 8 Kb RAM. The MCU also features a multi-clock generator (MCG) with flexible PLL, FLL or internal oscillator options, and a programmable interrupt timer (PIT) with PWM functionality. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C.
Pricing: Starts at $4.09 for the 9S08DZ line and starts at a $3.00 for the 9S08DV line, in quantities of 10,000. Demonstration boards for the S08D family are priced at $59; evaluation boards are available for $250; and a programming adaptor is available for $199. (All pricing is in USD; suggested resale pricing.)
Availability: Samples of the 9S08DZ128 devices are available now.
