Wire-to-board connectors offer secure mating retention

Lisle, Ill. — Molex Inc. has introduced a series of 2.00-mm (.079-inch) pitch SMT wire-to-board connectors designed for applications that require secure electrical contact. The CLIK-Mate connector features a positive locking mechanism that provides an audible click, so operators know when it is fully mated.

Rated at 3.0 amps, the CLIK-Mate connectors can be used for both signal and power connections in a variety of products including flat panel displays, gaming devices and on-board automotive systems. The single-row 2.00-mm connector includes dual positive inner-locks from 8 to 14 circuits and a wide single lock on 4- and 6-circuit versions. Its inner-lock design prevents wires from becoming tangled in the latch, which sometimes occurs with outer-lock types, causing latch damage or breakage. The inner-lock style also offers low insertion and high mating retention forces.

To prevent incorrect insertion, the CLIK-Mate connector includes a unique U-shaped terminal that can only fit in the housing one way. The system features a dual-contact tuning fork-style terminal that provides secure electrical contact and avoids terminal stubbing and damage that can occur with pin header designs. Terminals are tin-plated and are used with 22 to 26 AWG wires.

The connector's housing incorporates a user-friendly thumb latch that provides easy insertion/extraction and contributes to the "click" feel. Anti-overstress stoppers protect the latch during mating and shipping. Headers are available in vertical and right-angle designs and include windows for visual confirmation of mating. Flat areas on the headers can accommodate pick-and-place equipment.

Pricing: Sample price is $3 to $5 per mated set.
