As car songs go, the collection on Neil Young's recent album, "Fork in the Road," (Reprise Records, April, 2009) isn't bad.
It doesn't quite measure up to Bruce Springsteen's car classics like "Pink Cadillac" and "Cadillac Ranch." But of course those songs were written in a different time.
The title song on Young's new album may be seen as a turning point for future of personal transportation and the demise of the U.S. automobile-transportation complex. The SUV is dead. Good riddance.
But what will take it's place? Will anyone write car songs about the Prius or the Honda hybrid?
It worthwhile to think about these matters, and Neil Young again gives us something important to think about.
