RC network for automotive apps replaces up to 16 discrete devices

Glenrothes, Scotland — TT electronics' BI Technologies SMT Division has developed a series of resistor-capacitor (RC) chip networks that replaces up to 16 discrete components using 50 percent of the PC-board space. In addition, the RC series of thickfilm-on-ceramic chip networks are not susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD), and do not require diode protection.

The RC series chip networks are available in a 1206 case size, as well as in five different circuit configurations in a ten terminal 2512 array. The power ratings are 63 mW/resistor and 250 mW for the packaging rating. The resistance value range is 20 ohms to 1 megohm with a standard tolerance of ±20% (10% and 5% tolerances are available). The capacitor dielectric is X7R with a tolerance of ±20%. The temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values are ±200 ppm/°C. An optional TCR is available at ±100 ppm/°C. Custom devices may be specified.

In addition to the space savings and reduced component count, the RC networks also save on pick and place costs as well as inventory and bill-of-material costs, said the company. Because the RC networks can be placed close to active devices, it also reduces PC-board routing problems and minimizes inductance by eliminating long traces on the circuit boards.

The RC chip networks are suitable for a variety of circuits in laptop and notebook computers, workstations, multimedia applications, automotive electronics, computer peripherals, cellular phones, and set-top box applications. The low-profile RC networks may also be used in PCMCIA applications. Click the link for the RC series datasheet.

Typical pricing for the RC chip networks starts at $0.18 in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is from stock to six weeks. Samples are available immediately for engineering evaluation and customer prototypes.

BI also offers a Model BB1110RC resistor-capacitor network for memory termination and decoupling.
